Programme for UK Medical Schools Meeting 6th May 2016
Diversity Education in UK Medical School (subject to minor changes)

Aims of meeting are to provide opportunities:
For UK medical schools to showcase their diversity education.
To see and hear about work at other schools.
To consider how schools can learn from other schools to improve on diversity education at their medical school.
Highlight the work of DIMAH.

9.00-9.30am Registration
9.30-9.45 Welcome by (Professor Terence Stephenson, President of GMC)
9.45-10.10 Diversity Education in UK Medical and Schools
Overview of where we are
The meaning of diversity – interactive exploration of issue with audience

10.15- 11.00 Interactive session 1 in which schools use the prepared poster to present and compare their programme against suggestions made by DIMAH group and with other schools. Participants will work in small groups (five to six medical schools in each group giving groups of between 10-12 people at most). Each group will have a facilitator and someone recording key points

11.00 – 11.20 Break

11.20-12.30 Interactive session 1 continued

12.30-1.30 Lunch (opportunity to view posters from other groups)

1.30- 1.45 Key points to feedback from the morning interactive session
1.45-2.30 Assessment – interactive session to provide some practical tips using an OSCE station (Margot Turner)
2.30-3.00 Faculty development – Face to face and on line programmes available to medical schools and an exercise to consider how staff can be encouraged to integrate diversity across the curriculum (Nisha Dogra) to be finalised after data collection re programmes in place

3.00- 3.15 Break

3.15-4.00 Interactive workshop 2: Challenges of delivering and assessing diversity education (small group work at tables) with each school developing an action point with respect to diversity education
4.00- 4.30 Summary and action going forward as a group including discussion as to how success of action points set might be assessed
4.30- 5.30 Drinks/networking
